JFR Henna Mixing and Application

COLORING INSTRUCTIONS:

Before you begin, we strongly recommend that you do a strand test to give you an idea of how the henna will look before you apply it to your entire head. Choose a strand from the underside of your hair, apply your henna for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse and check color. The longer you leave our henna the more red is deposited.

For best results, apply henna to clean, dry hair.

YOU WILL NEED:

  • A non-metallic bowl
  • JFR applicator brush
  • Plastic gloves
  • For extra conditioning, we recommend that you add one tablespoon of olive oil per 3 oz. of henna (optional).
  • 2 cups of boiling hot water per 3 oz. of henna, or until your mixture is the consistency of honey. If your mixture is not hot enough your mixture will be lumpy and gritty and difficult to apply.

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS:

Pour desired amount of henna into your bowl. Add olive oil if using. Boil 2 cups of water. Slowly add boiling water to henna and stir with applicator brush until mixture has the consistency of honey. (If water is not boiling your mixture will be lumpy.) Wearing plastic gloves, apply henna from roots to ends in small, 2" sections. Continue until your hair and roots are thickly covered.

PROCESSING TIME:

The lighter your hair the more the henna will grab on to it, and the redder it will become. The longer you leave the henna on, the darker the shade of will be. We recommend that you leave your first application on for only 20 minutes to avoid over processing. Natural and Champagne Henna can be left on safely for up to 60 minutes with no risk of over processing. After the appropriate processing time, rinse the mixture out of your hair, then shampoo and condition. For best results, use JFR's specially formulated Henna Shampoo and Conditioner, which will help nourish your hair and preserve your color.  If you overprocess and your hair becomes too brassy, apply Brown Henna for 10 to 15 minutes to correct. You can also use vinegar or lemon juice rinse to tone done the color. We do not recommend chemical strippers to strip henna off hair. The key is to start out conservatively with processing times so you will not over process your henna pack.

FOR HIGHLIGHTING:

Choose a shade that is one shade darker than your natural hair. For example, on Champagne hair, use Strawberry Blonde Henna. Put cap on, pull desired strands through and apply darker shade to strands. Leave on for 20 to 30 minutes.

IMPORTANT:

In very rare instances, henna may cause skin irritation. If this is a concern, perform a patch test behind your ear.
JFR Henna is not recommended for dyeing eyelashes or eyebrows.
