Henna Instructions
HENNA INSTRUCTIONS AND QUESTIONS
DISCLAIMER: *For hair use ONLY* Since henna is a natural herb, it does not expire. However, when it ages, it gradually loses its potency and ability to transform your hair. This means that it won’t be as effective in dyeing, tinting, or conditioning the hair. We recommend only mixing the exact amount you need to achieve your desired shade. Henna can be stored for years in the original powder form as long as it's sealed and stored in a cool, dark place.
MIXING:
STEP 1:
Pour JFR henna into a non-metallic bowl. We recommend our 3oz size for shoulder length hair and our 7oz if your hair touches your back. For extra conditioning, you can add up to 1 TBS of olive oil. This step is optional.
STEP 2:
Boil 2 cups of water. NOTE: Water that is not boiling will result in a lumpy mixture which will not apply evenly (When water is hot enough your mixture should turn to the consistency of honey). Now apply plastic gloves and stir with your hand or our JFR applicator brush. Gradually add your boiling water until your mixture becomes the consistency of honey. You do not want your mixture to be too watery or thick. To add more depth to any shade of our Henna you can also mix our Henna with boiling dark roast coffee instead of boiling water.
APPLYING COLOR:
STEP 3:
Make sure your hair is clean for best results. Apply directly to clean, towel-dried hair.
For first timers, be sure to do a strand test first! After applying the previous steps, mix a small amount of henna coloring onto a small strand of your hair and let sit for up to an hour to assure it's the correct shade you want to apply to your hair. If you have sensitive skin we reccomend doing a spot test behind your ear or on the bottom of your forearm to test for any adverse reactions you may have. For external use only. If irritation occurs, discontinue use immediately.
From the roots of your hair masssage evenly with gloved hand/applicator brush all the way to your scalp. Touch up along all lines of your hair for even results. When done, wrap your hair with a plastic cap or saran wrap to accelerate color change. Leave on for 15-60 minutes depending on how much color you want deposited.
CONDITION AND RINSE:
STEP 4:
Rinse out thoroughly (no shampoo) until all product removed. Then use conditioner.
Note: Paste rinse-out may take a little time. Conditioner will help removal of dried paste.
Blow dry hair for 10-15 minutes to accelerate natural color-changing process.
Avoid shampooing for 24 hours. Henna-based dyes will take up to 48 hours to express true colors and undertones. Undertones can range from light red to green to blue before fully maturing. Not to be alarmed as this is very normal (most blend within hours). You can reapply as often as you like to reach your desired color.
